**About Us**:
A university-based, public art gallery since 1942, McIntosh Gallery collaborates with artists, curators and academics to develop innovative strategies to interpret and disseminate visual culture. Exhibitions, educational programs and special events provide a platform for engagement with visual art and artists. McIntosh Gallery is a centre for the presentation and dissemination of advanced practices and research in the fields of art history and contemporary visual art. The gallery is committed to serving the students, faculty and staff of Western University and the broader community of the City of London as a teaching and research resource. Ongoing programs and services actively promote innovative projects in the production, exhibition, interpretation and collection of visual culture.
**Responsibilities**:
The Gallery Operations Specialist (Collections, Exhibitions and Facility) is a multi-functional role with a wide range of key responsibilities that support and enable the McIntosh Gallery’s artistic, research, community, and business activities to succeed and function smoothly. Working closely with all members of the gallery team, this role is responsible for overall management, preservation, documentation, storage, organization, analysis, ethical care and maintenance of the permanent collection. The role facilitates the development, expansion, and implementation of the ArtShare program and manages the planning and implementation of exhibitions and curatorial projects on site, across campus, in community, and touring. The role coordinates facilities, furniture, and equipment requirements, monitors and tracks environmental trends and other requirements necessary to ensure Category A status is maintained, and liaises regularly with University units and departments related to facilities, security, technology, etc., as required. This role acts as an ambassador for the McIntosh Gallery at all levels of interdepartmental and public engagement.

**Education**:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts or relevant discipline
- Certificate or Diploma in Collection Management and/or Applied Museum Studies
- Combined education and experience in a related field will be considered
**Experience**:
- 3 years of art gallery experience working with collections, art handling, exhibition coordination, and installation
- Experience recruiting, training, and developing a team of gallery technicians and art installers
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A passion for art (contemporary and historical), a love of exhibitions, and inspired by paradigm shifts in the future of museum practice
- Possesses knowledge of methods of art display materials and techniques and use of related tools and equipment
- Understanding of the importance of maintaining the integrity of art work throughout the installation and preparatory process, with proven ability to safely handle art objects and display units, with art work shipping and receiving experience
- Understanding of the lighting requirements of exhibitions in accordance with best practices, Category A standards, as well as curatorial and artistic requirements
- Familiarity with new media and technologies related to contemporary artistic practices, as well as historical and traditional art practices
- Current knowledge of latest best practices in conservation, and long-term storage of museum collections and object handling, packing standards and loan processes
- Current knowledge of collections management systems and data management techniques
- Building management knowledge and basic carpentry, building, painting, and photography skills
- Demonstrated interest in staying up to date on latest artistic practices and strategies of display
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with artists, curators, and gallery staff
- Proven ability to meet tight and multiple deadlines, working simultaneously on multiple projects
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with both internal and external stakeholders
- Attention to detail and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and consistently produce high-quality work within deadlines
