Collingwood Neighbourhood House’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.

Job Overview

**Responsibilities**:

- Menu Planning: Develop a diverse and well-balanced menu that meets the nutritional needs of seniors and community members
- Meal Preparation: Cook and prepare meals in accordance with food safety standards and guidelines, ensuring quality and taste for 50+ people twice a week
- Budget Management: Work within budget constraints to source affordable and high-quality ingredients while minimizing food waste
- Collaboration: Coordinate with volunteers, reception staff and seniors team members to facilitate a smooth and efficient lunch service and kitchen usage
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of menu plans, ingredient inventory, and meal quantities served
- Reporting: Provide the Program Manager with cost and quantity estimates and other information as required for planning and budgeting.
- Community Engagement: Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for seniors, promoting social interaction during lunch programs
- Cleanliness and Safety: Adhere to hygiene and safety protocols in the kitchen area, ensuring a clean and organized workspace and fridges; including washing and drying linens.
- Promotion: Collaborate with the Older Adults Programs & Services Team to promote seniors’ programs and refer seniors accordingly
- Manage: Volunteers schedules and abilities to ensure safety and a positive volunteer experience
- Kitchen Committee: Chair bi-monthly kitchen Committee meetings and arrange for minute taking. Lead and/ or assist in the drafting of kitchen use policies and oversee tasks as required to ensure smooth operation of a shared kitchen space.
- Other Duties: As required by Program Manager or Team Lead.
- Work as part of CNH Older Adults Programs & Services Team to assist with development and

implementation of team-based initiatives and programs

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

- Experience shopping, prepping, and cooking meals for 50+ people preferably in a community setting
- Food Safe Level 1
- Ability to create nutritious, appealing menus for seniors and community members
- Ability to organize and supervise kitchen activities with an emphasis on cooperation
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and seniors
- Excellent time management skills
- Financial management and budgeting skills
- Respects diversity and promotes inclusion in the workplace
- Experience working with interdisciplinary, culturally diverse teams
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and volunteers from diverse cultural backgrounds and

life situations
- An egalitarian philosophy and non-judgmental attitude (i.e. gender, age, culture, race, sexual orientation,

language, ability and more)
- Demonstrated ability to manage practicum students and volunteers
- Demonstrated ability to set and maintain healthy boundaries with participants, volunteers and staff
- Successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC). Note that a previous

conviction(s) not related to this position may not exclude applicants.
- Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
- Valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are assets
- Additional language(s) would be an asset.

Line of Authority:
The Community Lunch & Kitchen Coordinator, reports to the Housekeeping & Wellness Program Manager and

is a member of the Older Adults Programs and Services Team at Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

Job Details:

- Salary: $22.23-$23.40 per hour (wage under review)
- Hours: 21 hours per week

- Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday from 9-3pm plus 9 flexible hours: shopping, planning, admin,

coordinating
- Expected Start date: March 2024

This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
