**Hours**: 40hours/week; 4 days/week, 10 hour shifts, variable schedule.

**Position Summary**:
This unique role will be responsible for delivering comprehensive veterinary services for
the One Health team at the Winnipeg Humane Society. This program addresses
veterinary needs of both remote and urban environments, ensuring the well-being of

animals and promoting responsible pet ownership among Indigenous communities. This
role involves both veterinary assistant, technologist and veterinary duties which will be

determined on a case-by-case basis and is considered a learning position with
mentorship. This position involves frequent travel, including the use of various modes of
transportation.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- **Clinical Support**
- Conduct routine veterinary examinations, vaccinations, and preventative
care for companionship animals.
- Perform diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as needed.
- Administer medications and treatments.
- Assist in surgical procedures and post-operative care.
- Participate in clinic preparation and follow-up including equipment

transportation.
- Other duties as assigned which may include duties at the WHS Clinic.
- **Travel and Clinic Rotation**
- Travel to remote northern Indigenous communities to provide on-site
veterinary services.
- Adapt to the unique challenges of working in remote environments,

including limited resources and variable clinic setups.
- Rotate between remote clinics and in-house clinics in Winnipeg.
- Participate in Truth and Reconciliation training.
- Participate and contribute to community engagement.
- Other duties as assigned by One Health Manager.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Demonstrated experience in a veterinary clinical setting.
- Ability to adapt to different working environments, including remote and

challenging conditions.
- Flexibility to adjust schedules to meet the needs of both the remote and in-house

clinics.
- Flexibility to assigned role for each clinic, some clinics will require more help with

veterinary technologist or assistant duties while other clinics will require more help

with veterinary duties.
- Strong communication skills and can engage effectively with diverse

communities.

**The following are mandatory qualifications for this role**:

- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited veterinary college.

**The following qualifications are desired and would be considered assets**:

- Previous experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an

asset.
- Truth and reconciliation knowledge and training

owners, fostering A compassionate and supportive environment in the clinic.
- Remaining composed in unpredictable or emergency situations, ensuring

effective decision making is maintained.
- Demonstrating a calm and patient demeanor, especially when dealing with

nervous or distressed animals.
- Being meticulous in observing and recording details during examinations,

treatments, and procedures.

**Abilities, Skills & Knowledge**:

- In-depth knowledge of common companion animal diseases and preventative

care in Manitoba.
- Proficient in administering vaccines and other medications.
- Competent in preparing for surgery, assisting or performing surgical duties as well

as post-operative care.
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the unique needs and perspectives of

Indigenous communities.
