**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Dean, School of Health Studies, the Academic Chair is responsible for providing broad academic and instructional leadership to the diverse programs in the Department. The Academic Chair, Health Foundations, ensures that the programming meets the needs of students and community partners and adheres to Ministry guidelines.
The Chair has familiarity with academic and administrative policies and the inter-relationships with College departments. With accountability for the planning, development, quality, delivery, evaluation, and financial management/viability of the Department's activities, the incumbent ensures the effective use of current pedagogical and financial practices. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the offerings are responsive and relevant to the needs of the students, employers, and the community at large, developing and implementing new initiatives as required to reflect changing technology, economic, and market influences.
The incumbent conducts first-level investigations of complaints from students and staff and initiates the problem-solving process. The incumbent establishes positive working relationships with internal employees, students, and external industry and business representatives. The incumbent participates in student recruitment and College marketing efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Health Discipline; Health Administration or related fields;- Sound knowledge of health disciplines to understand curriculum and pathways;- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in simulation and applied research;- Minimum of nine (9) years of related experience in increasingly responsible roles, including a minimum of two (2) years spent in a supervisory/management role;- Experience in managing personnel in a unionized environment;- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education, preferably within an applied post-secondary environment;- Demonstrable understanding of student engagement for the purpose of achieving student success;- Demonstrated understanding of the value and practice of applied research and simulation;- Strong communications, leadership, and interpersonal skills that make you a consensus builder who can articulate an academic vision and execute on plans;- Demonstrated ability to speak with external groups and individuals and the ability to engage partners and other relevant organizations to enhance College operations;- Excellent organizational, planning, and financial management skills.
