This position provides specialized expertise and leadership in the field of forest stewardship including; providing technical and policy support to district stewardship teams, and providing recommendations for decision makers within a natural resource program area. The primary role of the Regional Stewardship Specialist includes: Resource Strategic and Operational Planning, Land base Investments, Policy and Legislative support, Silviculture, Integrated Investment Planning, and Resource Monitoring.

**Job Requirements**:

- A degree in a natural resource field (i.e. forestry or forest engineering) and 5 years of current (gained over the last 7 years) and directly related forestry experience (ie. operational experience in integrated resource management, timber harvesting, and silviculture).
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Registered Professional Forester or immediately eligible (within 6 months) for registration with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP). **(Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction or another BC professional association referred to above, and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.)**:

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working within the regulatory framework of British Columbia.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in contract administration.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing complex projects.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience and knowledge of stewardship and resource values.
- Experience participating in research of a specific area of expertise.

**Provisos**:

- Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.
- Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
- Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
- Willingness to meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.

**About this Position**:
This position may be performed from these Ministry of Forests locations: Nanaimo, Campbell River and Port Alberni.
