L’Arche Toronto TIFS (Trying it on for Size) Program is seeking an energetic, compassionate individual to be a TIFS Instructor Successful applicants will have previous experience in supporting adults with disabilities, have an educational background and/or previous experience in coaching or teaching using universal design for learning framework, understands the principles of person-centered planning and holds knowledge of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

About TIFS:

- TIFS is located in the heart of Regent Park and is a program that is part of L’Arche Toronto. TIFS strives to empower and educate adults with intellectual disabilities.
- TIFS runs 7 days a week. TIFS Instructors will be expected to work most weekends, but will have two consequtive days off.
- On occasion, TIFS instructors will be required to do an asleep overnight; flexibility is a requirement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide leadership and one on one coaching
- Support individuals with disabilities to build life skills in the areas of: health and medical skills, domestic and household skills, Kitchen safety, Home safety, cooking, domestic skills, financial literacy, self-care, self-advocacy and community skills and interpersonal and social skills
- Facilitate development of goals, skills, and personalized learning plans for individuals participating in the program
- Develop and create visual aids
- Take on special projects assigned by Program Leader
- Co-create and develop Natural Environment Lessons Plans such as; navigating the TTC, meal preparation and kitchen safety
- Provide on-going leadership and guidance in working with families and community support
- Develop and maintain close partnerships within the L’Arche community
- Develop and maintain necessary records and documentation
- Understand and adhere to all L’Arche community standards, policies and procedures
- Appropriate use of all resources and property of the home/community, including vehicles, computers, telephone, utilities, budget, etc.
- Organize, plan and participate in “Belonging Nights” monthly.

Qualifications:

- A Degree or Diploma relevant to the Developmental Sector field;
- Previous experience in coaching/teaching adults with disabilities and who have a dual diagnosis;
- Excellent and proven hands on teaching skills;
- Strong interpersonal and time-management skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively with TIFS Leader and accept feedback and direction;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong life skills (such as cooking, cleaning and money management);
- Excellent critical thinking skills;
- Fluent in Microsoft Office, Zoom, graphic design programs, iMovie;
- Flexible, team player, self-motivated and self-directed;
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks;
- Fluent in spoken and written English and able to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas in reports and a team setting;
- Ability to directly address tensions in relationships;
- Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening;
- Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities and management.
