**Laboratory Technician**

**Year Contract - with the possibility of renewal**

**Project "Wastewater surveillance of SARs-CoV-2 in Northern Ontario"**.

**Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research**
- curating wastewater samples sampled at various wastewater facilities
- receiving and sending samples to or from multiple institutions following set protocols
- conducting DNA/RNA extractions of complex matrix sewage samples
- performing RTP-qPCR reactions for identification and characterization
- assisting in metadata curation
- entering study data into the surveillance network system

**Requirements**:
Education and Experience
- must have a minimum of a B.Sc (M.Sc preferred) in a relevant field (Microbiology, Virology, Biomolecular Sciences

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- experience conducting DNA/RNA extractions
- experience in RT-PCR and PCR methodologies and subsequent data analysis
- knowledge of viral and microbial culture techniques for biosafety level 2 microorganisms
- strong communication skills (oral and written) in English
- proven ability to work with mínimal supervision in the laboratory

We are looking for a team player, highly motivated and attentive to details.

**Working Conditions Hours**
- 37.5 hours weekly

**Salary**:

- $45,000 to $50,000, or commensurate with skills and experience.

**Duration**:

- One-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on funding
