Chemical Technician

**About the Company**:
Apex Environmental Services/ Cyanide Destruct Systems (located in Barrie, ON) is a small but quickly growing company which specializes in the destruction of cyanide waste and the recovery of gold and silver from cyanide solutions. We also handle various other hazardous waste streams such as corrosive, flammables, contaminated soil/water, non-hazardous waste, and laboratory waste. Our facility houses 3 reactors dedicated to destroying cyanide. The entire process consists of amalgamating waste from various clients to create a slurry, treating the slurry in our reaction vessels, filtering out the solids from the effluent, and finally preparing the treated waste for final disposal. In the other half of the plant, wastes are amalgamated or treated as required and shipped out for final disposal or further treatment. Apex/CDS also houses a soil division which specializes in handling excess soil generated from sites across the province.

**Job Information**:
At Apex/CDS, there is a new challenge around every turn. Considering we specialize in treating and disposing of chemical waste, whose chemical composition is seldom consistent, each case must be handled individually and new strategies for effective disposal are constantly being developed. There are plenty of opportunities to learn how various waste streams are treated.

**As a chemical technician at Apex, you can expect some of the following duties and responsibilities**:

- Sampling and testing material to determine appropriate final disposal options.
- Determining appropriate waste codes for shipping and receiving of various material.
- Reviewing analytical of received material.
- Operation of laboratory equipment including ISE probe, pH probe, GC/MS, ICP-OES.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and ensuring supplies are stocked.
- Segregation of miscellaneous waste according to waste class for further treatment.
- Operation of cyanide reactors.
- Additional duties as required.
- Degree/Diploma in a chemistry, environmental chemistry, or related discipline.
- Previous lab experience is highly preferred.
- Willing to tackle new tasks.
- Dedication and willingness to learn.
- Ability to critically think.
- Punctual, hard-working and focused.
- Self-motivated.

**Salary**: $20.00-$26.00 per hour
