Strata Engineering is looking for a capable building science professional to join our team and provide an immediate positive impact. Your role will be focused on building science related work, with the opportunity for exposure to structural, mechanical and civil engineering related work. Our projects and team structure provides a supportive, collaborate setting but with a high degree of independence and autonomy. Our project portfolio ranges from new construction, building restoration projects to energy consulting and one-off bespoke inspections, with a list that is steadily growing Your day-to-day responsibilities will include engineering investigations, construction field reviews, reporting, costing exercises, and creation of design/construction packages. You will work within a select group of highly competent engineers, project managers, technologists, and administrators to deliver optimum solutions for our clients. **Building Science Consultant General Responsibilities**:

- Evaluate engineering problems for home owners, developers, architects, and other clients and provide effective recommendations suitable for their needs, through conducting site visits and writing engineering reports.
- Design building enclosure assemblies in new and existing buildings, including drawings, specifications and tendering documents.
- Control quality during engineering projects, including field reviews, contract administration activities, mock-ups and active problem solving.
- Prepare technical reports using word processing programs and supplemental software such as AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, and PDF editor tools. Reports can include documenting current conditions, evaluating future risk and providing recommendations for renewals, rehabilitation, and/or maintenance of buildings.
- Evaluate work by third parties such as contractor’s shop drawings or designs by others, such as architectural, structural and mechanical drawings to identify areas of risk for water penetration, air leakage, and/or condensation.
- Provide order of magnitude budget costs which require quantity take-offs and unit rate development.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor of Engineering Applied Science or building technologist diploma required.
- 3-5 years of experience in building science.
- Field experience addressing site conditions and working with construction process.
- EIT, P.Eng, or ASC.T. designations preferred.

**SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES**:

- Technical and practical understanding of typical building enclosure design and construction principles.
- Ability to build collaborative and lasting relationships with clients, staff, and consultants.
- Ability to gather and evaluate information, interpret data, reports and drawings and assess conditions of multiple components.
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup or similar drawing programs is an asset.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues using prior knowledge and critical thinking.
- Technical or practical understanding of structural design or construction is an asset.
- Inquisitive nature with a holistic approach to problem solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of worksite safety and hazardous materials abatement procedures is an asset.
- Able to work at heights safely and effectively.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must have own vehicle with a safe driving record.
- Must be able to pass stringent background checks required by some clients.
