The Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic (ATRC) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is a specialized outpatient program dedicated to clinical service, education, and research in the area of anxiety disorders. Located in a large community hospital affiliated with McMaster University, the ATRC receives over 2000 referrals each year and provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services. In addition to offering state-of-the-art assessments and treatments for anxiety disorders, the ATRC is one of Canada’s leading centres for education and research in the area of anxiety. In response to the COVID19 pandemic, the ATRC has contributed to various initiatives ensuring support and treatment is available to those immediately affected by the pandemic and those who have limited access to care. Initiatives such as the Coping and Resilience Support (CARS) team were developed to offer a peer-support service providing mental health support to all St. Joseph’s staff and physicians, as well as external healthcare and frontline workers in the community, as well as prioritizing an increase in access of culturally-informed care to our Indigenous peoples who are experiencing mental health and addictions concerns and who face barriers accessing MHA services and/or live in geographically remote areas of Canada where access to care is challenging. The primary responsibility of the social worker is to support the individual and group-based psychotherapy mandate of the ATRC, providing CBT and CPT
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Bachelors of Social Work from an accredited University is required, Masters of Social Work from an accredited University preferred.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers required.
- Membership with the Ontario Association of Social Workers preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a mental health and/or addictions healthcare setting or practice
- Demonstrated knowledge and practiced skills in cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and cognitive processing therapy required
- Maintains current working knowledge of relevant legislation which includes the following: Mental Health Act; Health Care Consent Act; substitute Decisions Act; public Hospitals Act; Long Term Care Act; Child and Family Services Act; PHIPA; and Excellent Care for All Act.
- Able to work effectively both in a team environment and as an independent professional.
- Maintains expertise in social work and evidence-based best practices which includes family/individual and group treatment modalities, case management, crisis intervention and discharge planning.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the various populations served.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work as an effective member of an inter-professional team with exceptional interpersonal, advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Exceptional critical thinking and creative problem solving.
- Willingness and ability to continue to improve professional competence and knowledge
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Review and respond to all requests for services;
- Provide individual and group-based psychotherapy (CBT, CPT)
- Supervise new staff, learners and trainees (CBT, CPT)
- Build effective external partnerships to support care planning, care transitions, and support SJHH system development.
- Provide supportive counselling with a focus on validation and empathy using a strengths-based framework;
- Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments from a systems perspective which will include obtaining contact information such as Power of Attorney (POA), Substitute Decision Maker (SDM) Next of Kin (NOK), current family/social status, financial situation, community agency involvement, mental health status and psychosocial history.
- Identifies issues/goals and formulates a patient
- centered intervention plan in accordance to setting.
- Communicates with all relevant care providers within the circle of care to ensure integration of care plans and enhance quality co-ordinated client care. Collaboration, negotiation, management of role overlap and support of inter-professional team is necessary to ensure comprehensive client care.
