Term Full Time Non-Union Position

The Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education, with approximately 19,000 students and 2,700 employees, is seeking a Newcomer Parent Facilitator. Reporting to the Coordinator of Student Services, the Newcomer Parent Facilitator will play a crucial role in assisting and integrating newcomer families and students into our school community. This role involves providing a range of support services, advising, and resources to help newcomers overcome challenges related to adaptation, emotional well-being, and educational success

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Social Work required, Masters of Social Work would be an asset.
- 3 years experience in a role providing programming and services to youth and families

**Experience**:

- Experience with international cultures would be an asset
- Experience organizing youth activities would be an asset
- Experience in working with immigrant and refugee populations
- English as an additional language experience/education
- Experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness promotion
- Experience with being a liaison working with different organizations

**Ability**:

- Conduct comprehensive assessments of the needs and strengths of newcomer students and their families.
- Develop and maintain individualized support plans for each client, setting achievable goals and objectives.
- Provide emotional support and direction to newcomer students and their families to address trauma, and social adjustment issues.
- Organize group counseling sessions to promote peer support and community building among newcomer students.
- Offer workshops and training sessions to educators and school staff on cultural competence and working effectively with newcomer students.
- Promote cultural sensitivity and awareness within the school community as well as organize cultural exchange events and activities to foster understanding and appreciation among students and families.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and services provided.
- Generate regular reports on program outcomes and impact for school administration and funding agencies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Other Requirements**:

- Must have own transportation for regular travel within the region and occasionally outside of the region

START DATE: As soon as possible

LOCATION: Central Office - Truro, Nova Scotia

SALARY: Non Union Pay Band 9 ($2,869.23 - $3,586.54 Bi-weekly)
