**Carpenter (General Repair Technician GRT)**

Carpenters (GRT) at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state GRTs use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a GRT.

**Responsible for**

The multi-talented GRT is skilled in the following ways:

- Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts
- Framing
- Drywalling, mudding, sanding and finishing
- Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim, landscapes, and portraiture not included)
- Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing
- Insulation and vapour barrier installation
- Being awesome, in general
- Installation
- Doors
- Trim, moldings, and baseboards
- Hardware installation
- Cabinetry

**What you bring**

The GRT brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

- Experience working in construction environments
- Tools and the skills to use them
- Strong people and communication skills
- Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
- A safety mindset
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
- Ability to communicate in English

**Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory**:

- Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)
- IICRC certification (restoration focus)
- WHMIS
- First Aid

**Of Note**

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $27.00-$32.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- On call
- Overtime
- Weekends as needed

- Are you comfortable working in disaster environments such as water damage and fire damage?
- Will you practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite: work with a "clean as you go" mentality?
- Do you have any experience with demolition? If yes, please describe what you have demolished and tools you have used.
- Are you a versatile Carpenter? Do you consider yourself to be a real handy person to have around? Can you see things in the house that need to be fixed and you can just 'fix it'? We are disaster relief and require people who can see what must be done and take care of it Please speak to your abilities and how you would be the best person for this job:

- Are you willing to travel out of town for in-house work?
- Are you willing to travel out of town (or province) to assist other branches if they needed help?
- Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule? This is additional to scheduled day time hours.
- Will you wear the proper PPE provided for the job? You may be required to wear half or full-face masks for certain jobs. Being clean-shaven (only when notified the night before) is mandatory. Will you be clean-shaven when notified to do so?
- Please list your in-home carpentry/home renovation skills (anything from patching drywall and painting to ceilings):
