Tourist Information Counsellor (Seasonal - Lakefield & Peterborough)
Of interest to a personable, organized, self-starter who enjoys meeting people, a variety of tasks and providing excellent customer service in a busy, not-for-profit environment. It is expected that the work week will generally be 30 hours, five days a week, in the summer. Total number of weeks is dependent upon available funding.
**Eligibility Requirements**
As per the Canada Summer Jobs Program funded by the Government of Canada, applicants must be:
(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
(b) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27]*; and
(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Note that it is no longer a requirement to be enrolled as a student.
It is expected that **this position will be based in Lakefield and Peterborough but travel to other local communities may also be required**.Access to a reliable vehicle is necessary since public transit is not available.
**What You Will Do**:
- Staff pop-up visitors centre in Lakefield, primarily on weekends
- Assist the communications team with a variety of marketing and communications
- Act as the lead staff member providing area information, accommodation referrals and directions to visitors
- Assist with special event planning
- Maintain inventory of tourism and business resources
- Track statistics for referrals and assistance
- Connect with Chamber members to provide support and updates
- Responsible for opening and closing office on specified days
- Perform duties in a professional and confidential manner.
**What You Will Bring**:
- Experience with web maintenance and social media for business purposes is considered an asset
- Excellent knowledge of the area is required - especially restaurants, retail locations, attractions, special events (may be virtual), and accommodation providers
- Ability to clearly and concisely give accurate directions
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Strong computer skills in a Microsoft environment
- Ability to work independently to achieve day-to-day results
- Demonstrated time management & organizational skills
- Experience with special events (including virtual) is considered an asset
- Post-secondary focus on Event Planning, Communications, Community Development, Marketing & Promotions, Fundraising or Business Administration considered an asset
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Pay: $16.55 per hour

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Every Weekend
- Weekends as needed
