**About Our Opportunity**

Reporting to the District Director, the Coordinator, Safety and Emergency Planning, supports management’s accountability to ensure protection of property assets, employees and tenants through monitoring NSPHA compliance with safety and business continuity requirements defined in applicable legislation and corporate publications. The incumbent is responsible for delivering regular updates supported by key facts and data that quantifies the status of: accident prevention, emergency preparedness, and systems operational readiness.

**Primary Accountabilities**
- Conducts or coordinates program audits to measure results against standards and objectives through test/drill records, document sampling, evaluation, analysis, formal reporting, and providing recommendations to the Director.
- Coordinate staff training requirements. Organize, maintain and update the training records for all employees. Communicate training requirements to procurement staff to establish standing offers for training services.
- Ensure annual fire exit drills are scheduled by client services staff for all residential and owned office buildings, and inform Coordinators, Client Services, and Property Manager of drill requirements. Collect drill records from Client Services Coordinators and Property Managers that document the drill including resident and staff response, noting follow-up action necessary by staff or contractors; input drill records into Yardi.
- Where applicable, monitor and audit potable water management plans to mitigate health risks of water borne disease or bacteria and monitor performance and results of pest control maintenance initiatives.
- Work with the managers/supervisors to encourage all workplace accidents/injuries/illnesses/near misses are reported promptly and reports of unsafe acts/conditions are investigated immediately. Make recommendations for corrective actions to Director.
- Ensure Business Continuity Plans (BCP) are complete, updated and conform to corporate requirements.
- Coordinate with the Internal Services Department Risk Management Team and to administer third party bodily injury claims on behalf of NSPHA.
- Other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent post-secondary education plus a minimum of 3 years’ related experience.
- Proficient and knowledgeable of NS Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, NS Fire Safety Act, NS Building Code Act and NS Environmental Act.
- Knowledge of audit, inspection, and hazard assessment process.
- Knowledge of loss prevention and investigation techniques.
- Certified in the following areas: emergency first aid; WHMIS; fall arrest and confined space.
- Possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

**Assets**
- Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
- Real Property Administration designation.

**Competencies** required at this level of work are Decision Making, Problem-Solving, Negotiation, Analytical, Communication, and Time Management.

**Equivalency**

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
