**About Cytophage Technologies Inc**

Cytophage Technologies Inc is a biotechnology company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, working on the analysis of bacteriophages that serve as an alternative to antibiotics to help tackle the global problem of antibiotic resistance. Current research is focussed on developing bacteriophage products for use in the agricultural industry and / or for human compassionate use.

Our vision is that every hospital and every animal medical centre will have a supply of Cytophage products to manage any incumbent or emergent bacterial infection.

We are currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to work in our Research and Development department, reporting to Senior Research Scientists for a one-year contract. This position will primarily be responsible for the isolation and characterization of bacteriophages against a variety of Containment Level (CL) two pathogens.

**Salary Range**

$40,000 - $50,000

Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- General laboratory maintenance
- Training and mentoring of students
- Processing of raw environmental samples
- Isolation and purification of bacteriophages from environmental samples
- Characterization of bacteriophages including infectious assays, preparing samples for genetic sequencing, sequence analysis and annotation, and sample preparation for electron microscopy
- Assisting in project design
- Independent troubleshooting and literature searches
- Writing of reports and manuscripts for publication
- Bacterial propagation in a CL2 laboratory

**Job Qualifications**

Education and Experience
- Education: minimum of a BSc with specialization in microbiology, molecular biology or virology, MSc would be considered as an asset
- Experience working in a laboratory environment and in the operation and maintenance of modern laboratory equipment
- Experience in molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to; nucleic acid extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Sanger and NGS sequencing, and pulse-field gel electrophoresis
- Proven experience in aseptic technique
- Demonstrated experience in bacterial culturing techniques, experience working with CL2 microorganisms
- Experience in bacteriophage propagation methods and bacteriophage characterization would be a strong asset
- Experience working in a CL2 environment and knowledge of biosafety principles and practices for working with pathogens
- Experience in carrying out projects under mínimal supervision
- Ability to optimize and troubleshoot independently
