**About the Role**:
The Roots on 6 Event Lead will play a central role in supporting the programming IslamicFamily, Bent Arrow, Catholic Social Services, the Mennonite Church Alberta, and the City of Edmonton in planning for World Refugee Day and Indigenous People’s Day. You will gather materials and input from the various participating agencies and solicit community contributions for the celebration and beyond.

People come to IslamicFamily for support with security, safety and growth. IslamicFamily serves 5000 clients every month, runs Edmonton's second largest food bank, provides aid in financial crises, supports victims of gender-based violence, settles refugees, and delivers a range of preventative programming for youth. IslamicFamily's services are open to all.

IslamicFamily is an Imagine Canada accredited charity, the winner of the Government of Alberta's Inspiration Award for its work combating domestic violence (2020) and the Canadian Mental Health Associations Professional Service Award (2020). **About Roots on 6**:
Roots on 6 is a platform exploring and celebrating the resilience of multigenerational newcomers and Indigenous Peoples. Our focus is on amplifying the voices in these communities with art, poetry, photography, film, and storytelling.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Attend meetings with the Roots on 6 collaborative and bring valuable insights to the process and direction
2. Be committed to helping for one cycle of the program (May-September)
3. Determine a theme, develop a project timeline and scope of work, and recruit volunteers and participants
4. Leverage community connections to collect submissions, and recruit speakers for the event
5. Review submissions, offer feedback, and develop a publishing schedule
6. Support the planning and execution of the Roots on 6 World Refugee Day and Indigenous People’s day celebration at city hall and assist in finding submissions and performers/speakers that cater to the theme

Required Qualifications
1. Have the time, commitment and desire to help IslamicFamily and partner agencies in their efforts to plan the Roots on 6 celebration
2. Strong English language and computer skills.
3. Prior experience in creative writing is an asset
4. Ability to build partnerships within community and connect with volunteers
