Opportunity

The Youth Employment Coordinator position is located at the Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC). This position works with and coordinates with potential employers in the community to develop and support young people, including BYRC Drop In participants and students connected to the East Vancouver Education Centre, a partnership with Vancouver School Board, to assess readiness for employment through linkages to successful and meaningful employment experiences. This position strengthens community connectedness and provides better outcomes to social determinants of health.

The coordinator works to ensure that all partners are working together to provide skill development and readiness to engage in employment. They will facilitate employment placement in the community and work with employers to create partnerships and maintain relationships to support both youth and employers to have positive experiences.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop and maintain connections within the business community to ensure a variety of appropriate and stable work placements for participants.
- Provide employer education and connection regarding hiring youth with diverse skills and adaptations for employment including youth with FASD, learning differences, mental health, and other needs.
- Provide ongoing support to participants and provide consultations (on site or by phone) with employers supervising the work experience participants. This also includes on-site supervision for youth in work placements.
- Links with key stakeholders (Social Workers, teachers, business leaders,) to seek their support with successful job placement strategies.
- Assist in planning and supporting cultural programming and activities.
- One-to-one and outreach work with participants to help maintain connection with school and work placements.
- Work with school team to support the participant’s individual education plans.
- Take a lead role in developing and implementing Transition Plans for participants graduating from the program.
- Reports as required by Vancouver Coastal Health.

**Qualifications**:

- B.A. in a related field, Career Development Practitioners Certificate with one year experience
- Previous experience working with multi-barriered or at-risk youth, and in employment readiness programming.
- Experience working in an anti-oppression framework.
- Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification
- Class 5 driver’s license

Additional Assets
- Learning disabilities training including FASD, ADHD
- Special needs substance use/mental health counselling training are an asset
- Experience in working with a diverse population of youth, including Indigenous, BIPOC, LGBTQ2SI+
- Ability to facilitate workshops.
- Experience in community development
