Learning Strategist- staff
Part-time - Open until filled - Starts: ASAP**The Position**:
Reporting to the Learning Services Director, this role will work to advance students’ academic skills through learning strategies. This includes developing success plans, study skills, research skills, and assessment and analysis techniques. The Learning Strategist will also facilitate and deliver workshops/seminars in areas including academic skills, effective studying and learning, and time management. The Learning Strategist leads the Academic Success Program and the Writing Support Program, and manages the Tutoring program and oversees the Tutoring Centre at Redeemer with an emphasis on providing writing support. Support is also provided for students struggling academically, providing academic strategies based on best practices in educational research. Students with a broad range of disabilities are also supported by the Learning Strategist who works with students to develop skills based on their unique learning profiles.

**Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate and deliver workshops/seminars in video format or in-person in areas including academic skills, effective studying and learning, and time management.
- Advance students’ academic skills through learning strategies, success plans, study skills, research, information, support, assessment and analysis techniques.
- Lead the Academic Success Program and the Writing Support Program.
- Meet with students on academic probation regularly.
- Support international students with the transition to university in Canada.
- Administers individualized support for students struggling academically, providing academic strategies based on best practices in educational research.
- Manages the Tutoring program and oversees the Tutoring Centre at Redeemer with an emphasis on providing writing support.
- Facilitates and regularly updates the Citation Certified Online course.
- Ensure that students with disabilities registered with Learning Services have access to the appropriate resources indicated by assessments which includes developing an accommodation plan.
- Administer individualized support for students struggling academically, providing academic strategies based on best practices in educational research.
- Support students with a broad range of disabilities, clinical diagnoses, mental health, cognitive and intellectual disabilities to develop skills based on their unique learning profiles.

**Preferred Skills and Attributes**:

- Experience with and knowledge of a variety of learning barriers, preferences, and strategies
- Knowledge of and experience with the developmental needs of university aged students and the interaction of learning issues on this developmental stage
- A deep understanding of the contributing factors of Student Success
- Knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the writing process
- Experience maintaining student progress records
- Ability to write case notes according to established policies, procedures and guidelines
- Previous supervisory experience of staff and student workers (workshop presenters, tutors, note-takers, scribes, personal assistants, attendant care providers, student workers etc.)
- Ability to relate to a range of students at different levels of development
- Experience with and an understanding of the interaction of parents or guardians with students facing learning challenges
- Demonstrated ability to read psychological assessments and a working knowledge of the theoretical underpinnings of these assessments
- Demonstrated team building skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Creative problem skills and strong organizational skills in order to design innovative solutions and manage deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and understanding of various types of assistive technology

**Education, Training & Certifications**:

- Graduate degree required; preferred areas include learning studies, psychology, higher education, student affairs, counselling or related fields (a combination of a Bachelors degree with relevant experience may be considered equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a related field
