Salty (the seagull) is the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s mascot. Alongside the Community Relations Staff (CRS), Salty attends over 50 community events each year. It is no surprise that Salty is a well-recognized character in the community and always receives a lot of attention. Salty is a loveable, friendly seagull who enjoys meeting new people, giving them high-fives, and posing for photos.

**In this job you will**:

- Participate in a training session with the community relations staff during the first two weeks of May
- Attend community events throughout the Lower Mainland with the CRS team
- Dress in the Salty mascot costume and:

- Greet community members with handshakes, hugs, and high-fives
- Be enthusiastic and animated
- Perform funny activities
- Pose for photos
- Participate in the Canada Together mascot dance-off
- Learn to adapt to different situations with children, teenagers, and adults, including gauging social cues to understand the level of interaction with children and visitors to the event
- Be responsible for the costume - help the CRS pack up the costume and ensure it’s taken care of properly
- Create lasting positive impressions for children and families.

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
Salty is accompanied by a handler at all times. The handler will act as your eyes and ears and help navigate you through the sometimes-challenging environments at events.

A typical Salty shift is between four (4) and eight (8) hours. Within that shift there will be approximately one interactive set per/hour lasting approximately 20 to 30 minutes with a 10-to-20-minute break between each interactive set.

**NORMAL HOURS OF WORK**: Averaging approximately four (4) to sixteen (16) hours per weekend, from May to December.

**RATE OF PAY**: $21.74 per hour. 1% of earnings will be deducted in accordance with the collective agreement.

**DURATION**: Weekends from May through September and occasional weekends from October to December 31).
