**Function**:
The Housekeeper maintains high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma
- Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical requirements of the job
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Knowledge and understanding of the aging process, desirable
- Genuine in and respect for the elderly and desire to provide client centered care in the health care facility.

**Responsibilities**:

- Clean the TV room, staff and visitor washrooms, nurses’ station, medication rooms, sitting areas, and activity rooms weekly according to schedule in job routine.
- Clean daily Floor dining rooms after breakfast and lunch service
- Daily cleaning of resident rooms, including washrooms, on floor according to schedule in job routine.
- Spot vacuum hallways.
- Spot wipe the walls and hand rails of RHAs on the Floor
- Other duties as assigned.

**Safety and Housekeeping**:

- Carry out health and safety programs in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and follow Bethany Lodge’s procedures regarding safety
- Keep the work area clean and safe at all times, free from hazards.

**Communication**:

- Communicates with staff, residents and others as required.
- Maintains total confidentiality regarding residents, administration and personnel

**Ongoing Education**:

- Attends seminars arranged by Bethany, presentations, conferences and in-services related to quality resident care and safety.
- Completes all annual mandatory education required by legislation and departmental education as assigned

**Performance Standards**:

- Resident abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Findings of abuse (physical, verbal or other) will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Courtesy, politeness, respect and kindness is required for this position. At all times you must be conscious of preserving Bethany Lodge’s good reputation.
- Expected to show respect to the residents and their families, supervisors and colleagues, visitors, and administration. No shouting, lewd jokes, or foul language will be tolerated at Bethany Lodge.

**Working Conditions**:

- Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent bending and stooping
- Exposure to chemicals
- Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment
- Constant moving (walking)

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $19.66-$21.27 per hour
