**Job Summary**:
Under the direction of the Equipment Officer, the Equipment Technician will maintain, repair and calibrate respiratory protective equipment and devices, as well as other safety and protective equipment as may be assigned.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Maintain, repair and calibrate respiratory protective equipment and devices, as well as other safety and protective equipment as may be assigned.
- Maintain, repair and calibrate breathing apparatus; and other assigned equipment including elevating and extend-air devices, rapid intervention kits (RIT), air purifying respirators (APRs), confined space breathing equipment, air carts, air hose-lines, hazardous materials respiratory equipment and Bluetooth communication systems.
- Conduct warranty and non-warranty repairs as per SCBA contract with vendors. Track and report warranty repair log and credit system. Prepare status reports for warranty credit program.
- Maintain respiratory equipment parts inventory and replacement parts ordering and tracking, under the direction of the Equipment Officer.
- Coordinate hydrostatic testing, maintenance, repairs and replacement of SCBA air cylinders and compressor cascade cylinders banks.
- Coordinate the maintenance of SCBA Compressor servicing and repairs as required.
- Conduct and document annual flow tests for all respiratory equipment in accordance with manufactures instructions, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Institute for Occupational Safety (NIOSH) standards, and other legislative requirements to ensure compliance.
- Conduct and document annual face piece fit tests for staff and fit staff with optimally sized equipment as required.
- Provide support to Training Officer responsible for SCBA training to ensure all respiratory equipment users have received annual certification and training in equipment use, in conformance with applicable standards.
- Coordinate and maintain the testing, documentation, and ensure the quality of breathing air from air compressors, cascades and vehicle mounted cylinders in conformance with applicable standards.
- Maintain current certification for respiratory program as a Certified Air Respiratory Equipment (CARE) technician, and certify staff performing service or maintenance to lesser appropriate levels.
- Ensure radio frequency identification (RFID) program for all SCBA equipment and components is current, and maintained.
- Participate as member of applicable committees and report to Respiratory Protection Program Administrator and liaise with the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Investigate, research, and report any equipment malfunctions.
- Prepare reports for Fire Chief or designate, Deputy Chief of Capital Assets, Division Chief of Capital Assets, Equipment Officer, Joint Health and Safety Committee, as required or requested.
- Keep accurate and current records and inventory of all testing, maintenance, warranty and non-warranty repairs for all MFES respiratory program assets.
- Deal with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or other department equipment general repairs and/or maintenance, assigned by the Equipment Officer.
- Assist the Equipment Officer with the disbursement of equipment and supplies to stations and other MFES locations, including receiving orders, picking orders and delivering orders.
- Ensure MFES records and maintenance will meet requirements of the Respiratory Protection Program, Health and Safety requirements and provide data to Ministry of Labour (MOL) if/when requested.
- Other duties as assigned, as they relate to the goals and objectives of the organization.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Secondary school graduate with a technical background and a knowledge of Fire services. A valid skilled trade licence/ certification is an asset.
- Successful completion of SCBA testing, calibration and repair certification from the current SCBA manufacturer is required within 30 days of hiring at employer's expense
- Must have the ability and capability to work independently, and posses the technical competencies necessary to effectively deliver mobile testing, calibration and repair services.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Quality Breathing Air - SCBA Administrators course within the first year. Required to maintain all aspects of MFES respiratory protection program.
- Computer literacy sufficient to record and maintain records in a work order management solution and operate testing and calibration equipment. Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint and Word to maintain and store records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must possess a valid Class G driver's licence in good standing
- Participate in respiratory protection program and policy and standard operating guideline procedure updates.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 92,672.06 - $ 109,026.06
