- Responsibilities:
- You would provide professional advice, represent municipal heritage interests and work with landowners on financial incentive programs. Your mandate would be to help create a complete and healthy Kitchener with safe and thriving neighbourhoods. Key aspects of the work program include:
- Administer the Designated Heritage Property Grant Program and Property Tax Refund Program
- Implement our significant cultural heritage landscapes. This involves review and identification of key characteristics and defining elements, evaluating options for conservation, and recommending best methods and tools for implementation.
- Prepare statements of cultural heritage value or interest, and descriptions of heritage attributes for property worthy of designation under the Ontario Heritage Act.
- If needed, assist with the process of adding properties of cultural heritage value or interest to the Municipal Heritage Register. Assist and provide support with the implementation of cultural heritage resources, such as neighbourhood panels and place making, information distribution, designation plaques and other heritage initiatives and projects.
- Support the review of properties on the Municipal Heritage Register for consideration for designation before the end of 2024.
- Prepare and present reports for the City’s Heritage Kitchener Advisory Committee and Standing Committee/Council as needed.
- Represent municipal heritage planning interests at meetings.
- Provide professional advice to the general public, development industry, and the municipal heritage committee.
- Requirements:
- Must have a minimum 4-year honours University Degree in a field related to heritage planning.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in a field related to heritage planning.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and working familiarity with historical preservation theory, legislation, principles, and practices including the Ontario Heritage Act, Planning Act, Official Plans and Zoning By-laws.
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills along with project management experience.
- Must have strong interpersonal, oral presentation, written communication and demonstrated computer skills.
- Excellent organizational skills in order to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Must have a valid Ontario driver's license in good standing and access to a vehicle.
- Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
- Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
