The Wetaskiwin School Division has a full time opportunity for a Transportation Coordinator who will work out of our District Office. Situated in the County of Wetaskiwin, The Wetaskiwin School Division has seventeen schools, including one off campus program and an Early Education & Family Wellness program. Our School Division is serving the educational needs of approximately 3500 students in a combination of rural and urban communities.

As the Transportation Coordinator, you will play a vital role in providing training and ensuring the compliance of bus drivers with safety regulations for Wetaskiwin School Division. Working closely with the Director of Transportation, you will ensure adherence to provincial legislation and WRPS policies and procedures. This position will involve conducting MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training) and S-Endorsement driver training for Bus Drivers.

**Specific Duties**:

- Implement and maintain MELT (or equivalent) and S-Endorsement driver training programs.
- Ensures Division policies and administrative procedures for student transportation are adhered to and fully implemented.
- Conduct driver training sessions and evaluate driver performance.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections of buses and facilities.
- Consult on the development and maintenance of safety policies and procedures for student transportation.
- Establish and Implement driver training programs for WRPS students
- Review hours of service compliance for drivers of district-owned vehicles and contracted bus operators.
- Skill assessment or driving evaluation of contracted bus operators drivers (including ride along on bus route).
- Document and Investigate complaints related to safety or driver behavior
- Assist and support the Director with annual government mandated Route assessments (distribute, track completion, follow up with counties about concerns related to roadways and obstructions, ensure stakeholders are notified of concerns for follow up and resolution).
- Complete paperwork for insurance claims related to incidents or collisions.
- Aid with collision and incident investigations.
- Provides on-going professional development to student transportation providers (bus contractors, staff and parents); including “S” Endorsement.
- Liaise with members of the general public and respond to all complaints and inquiries relating to student transportation.
- Promote public awareness of the safety issues for student transportation.
- Liaise and maintain positive, professional working relations with all WRPS staff, students, parents and bus contractors.
- Communicate effectively with all site-based staff in regards to the operations of transportation services (safety, routing, timing, school of choice, etc.).
- Exhibit a high level of personal, professional and organizational integrity.
- Commitment to complete Health and Safety Training as prescribed by the Board.
- Excellent computer skills using Microsoft office, industry specific database programs and emerging technologies including Google Apps and other cloud based apps.

Preference will be given to individuals with the following education and/or experience
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible related experience within the public sector, preferably student transportation.
- Minimum of a high school diploma with post-secondary education in a related field.
- Experience in similar roles will be given consideration in lieu of education.
- Working knowledge of transportation systems software, preferable.
- Valid Class 2 driver’s license.
- Alberta “S” Endorsement Certification would be an asset.
- Knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations related to student transportation safety
- Commitment to The Wetaskiwin School Division Health and Safety program, practices, policies and procedures.

Employment is dependent on satisfactory completion of criminal records/vulnerable sector check, and a driver’s abstract. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are requirements of the position. Current First Aid and CPR certification would be an asset.
