**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Mortgage Underwriting and Portfolio Management, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for the underwriting and analysis of commercial mortgage investments in markets throughout Canada. You will conduct preliminary evaluation of both prospective new business opportunities and renewals of maturing mortgages.

You will be exposed to mix of institutional income-producing real estate asset classes including retail, office, industrial, and residential properties. Working with sophisticated financial models, the incumbent will leverage demonstrated skills analyzing real estate fundamentals and financial statements, researching market conditions, and writing loan submissions to support investment recommendations.

You will be a valued member of the underwriting team, expected to research, understand, and present risk assessments and well-articulated investment recommendations to peers and Senior Management.

**What you will do**
- Review, analyze and validate new loan and renewal investment submissions for commercial real estate mortgage investments
- Research and investigate markets across Canada
- Review third party reports including but not limited to Appraisal, Environmental, and Structural
- Analyze financial statements
- Review commercial leases
- Assist in the ongoing financial monitoring and analysis of the existing mortgage portfolio including full Risk Rating analysis comprising property valuation, market research and physical property inspections
- Obtain necessary internal approvals for various borrower requests (e.g. partial discharges, assumptions, short-term extensions, etc)
- Assist in drafting of letters of interest, term sheets, and commitment letters
- Work in alignment with corporate objectives and risk tolerance
- Maintain knowledge of underwriting standards and industry-evolving policies and guidelines
- Special projects as assigned, including periodic market research and financial statement analysis

**What you will bring**
- University degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, Business/Commerce or a related field
- Completion of, enrollment in, or willingness to enroll in the Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) program is strongly favored
- An Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (“AACI”) designation, or willingness to enroll in the program, is considered an asset
- Familiarity with the Canadian real estate market
- Detailed working knowledge of credit analysis principles, risk management and financial modeling
- Ability to understand financial statements and assess financial viability
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills (English)
- Excellent organization and time-management abilities
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong mathematical aptitude and robust analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of MS Office software suite
