**Responsibilities**:
The Research Assistant (Field Coordinator) will support research and related activities for the Northern Hail Project, under the direction of the Executive Director, and in collaboration with the research team. The role will assist researchers, staff, students and other members of the research team with a variety of day-to-day research duties to facilitate the achievement of innovative research results, including facilitating daily interaction with field participants and coordinating the logistics of field operations on-site in Alberta (from June to August), and ensuring the safe and successful running of the field campaign. The Research Assistant will assist in compiling, processing and analyzing data, preparing reports, written materials and presentations, and will support knowledge translation and dissemination to stakeholders.

The Key Accountabilites include:

- Supports the Northern Hail Project under direction of the Executive Director, and in collaboration with the research team, applies standardized research protocols/procedures to support the research
- Assists researchers, staff, students and other members of the research team with a variety of day-to-day research duties to facilitate the achievement of innovative research results
- Facilitates daily interaction with field participants and coordinates the logistics of field operations for the Alberta location on-site (from June to August), ensuring the safe and successful running of the field campaign (coordinates logistics for a team of 9-15 people in the field to conduct missions for the purpose of characterizing hailswaths and properties of hailstones)
- Collects and compiles data of hail in the field during missions and post-event data collection, and assists with data analysis and interpretation of data
- Composes and records research results, ensuring quality control of data and analyzes results
- Following the field season, undertakes data processing and analysis to achieve NHP research outcomes, and prepares reports and other written materials for presentations and submission to various stakeholders as required

**Education**:
- 3 year University Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology; or a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering with a Diploma/Certificate in Meteorology
- Experience:
- 1 year of experience supporting research implementation and related activities
- Experience coordinating logistics of personnel operating in a field research or operational environment
- Experience planning, preparing, and executing projects, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing results and reports

Preferred:
- Experience dealing with the broadcast media would be an asset
- Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Ability to monitor and forecast weather and severe storms, interpret meteorological data (e.g., weather radar imagery) and intercept severe thunderstorms
- Proven ability to identify target areas for sampling missions and safely intercept thunderstorms
- Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
- Ability to collaborate and develop credible relationships with a wide variety of individuals
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of tech
