We are currently seeking a IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Hamilton.

This is a Full-time Permanent position

JOB DESCRIPITON

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor and/or Pharmacist, aseptically prepares sterile admixtures according to Calea WI’s. Assists the Pharmacy Manager or in supervising workflow and ensures WI adherence within the compounding room.

Working under the supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor and/or Pharmacist, the IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician is responsible for compounding parenteral solutions according to the detailed specifications of the WI's.

The IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician must have a sound knowledge of pharmaceutical technology as well as having the skills and knowledge required for aseptic manipulations. The incumbent must demonstrate high integrity and good judgment; never swaying from the goal of service and product quality while compounding products without direct supervision. This person will provide direction of production process and coordinate training with new work instruction procedures and therefore must have supervisory skills. The IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician Team Lead must have flexibility and demonstrate reliability and initiative. Also assist with production support activities such as production staging, quality assurance monitoring, product labeling, packaging and cleaning procedures. The work performed is generally of a routine nature. Unusual problems are referred to the incumbent’s supervisor.

RESPONSIBILTIES
- Maintain inventories of sufficient supplies in staging and cleanroom departments to meet production demands.
- Compound non-hazardous sterile I.V. solutions as per the batch formulation, and that all relevant quality standards, and relevant compounding guidelines are maintained.
- Ensures clean room NAPRA and Fresenius Kabi and USP 797 non-hazardous sterile compounding standards are met
- Prepare the various cleaning and stock solutions following compounding and measuring processes as outlined in WI's.
- Pick, inspect and verify all production components against production documents.
- Working with the guidance of the production team, maintain strict adherence to line clearance principles through all stages of production.
- Perform validation, calibration, and microbiological monitoring and checking as required by standard operating procedures and WI's.
- Prepare compound and documentation for the Pharmacist for verification
- Ensure completion of all required Quality Assurance entries on production documentation.
- Complete in process and final inspections of product as required by WI's.
- Label and package compounded product to ensure proper identification and integrity for shipping and final use.
- Assist in the cleaning of equipment, totes, and work surfaces and maintain facility compliance with Fresenius Kabi standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous Production Technician experience in a pharmaceutical environment an asset
- Pharmacy Technician diploma from a recognized community college
- Experience or exposure in a sterile compounding/manufacturing environment, or community hospital and/or pharmacy an asset.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent communication skills and computer knowledge
- Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints.
