**Nicotine Dependence Service (NDS)**

**Position Description**

The Staff Scientist will work with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Nicotine Dependence Service, and will be cross-appointed to CAMH Education, to support a number of Educational Scholarship opportunities. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is the largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital in Canada, as well as one of the world's leading research centres in its field. Our services are delivered to help transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addictions. Our goal is to tailor treatment to each individual, providing patient-centered, comprehensive, coordinated care. The Nicotine Dependence Service (NDS) is aligned with CAMH’s strategic goals of improving care for the patients of today and innovating care for the patients of tomorrow. It is intended to promote excellence in the field of tobacco and vaping cessation as well as health behaviour change, with a focus on using digital technology to advance interventions. Using a Learning Health Systems approach, the NDS is dedicated towards finding innovative solutions to solving major challenges in care delivery, as well as to build capacity among healthcare providers to deliver effective interventions to their clients.

The Staff Scientist will report to the PI of Nicotine Dependence Service with a dotted line report to the Senior Scientist in CAMH Education. The Staff Scientist will work with the Education Integration committee at CAMH, which seeks to develop education priorities, in alignment with the One CAMH strategic plan, including the advancement of anti-oppression and anti-racism through education, training and knowledge mobilization, quality standards for development, delivery and evaluation and monitoring of activities and resources for operational and cost efficiencies. The Staff Scientist will work with and be supported by the CAMH Education Research Lab to help advance education scholarship and innovation at CAMH.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop a research program strategy and conduct research, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Director and Manager, that advances the goals and evaluation of NDS research and quality improvement initiatives
- Plan and execute research tasks aligned with project plan and objectives
- Mentor learners (Undergraduate thesis students and Masters students) and other staff in the fields of education and faculty development
- Prepare research on research activities, progress and issues on a regular basis to the Executive Director
- Collaborate with CAMH’s Education Scientists
- Identify and pursue external opportunities that present viable funding opportunities, including peer-reviewed or provincial/federal grants
- Prepare and deliver content for publications and presentations at academic meetings and conferences (first, senior and other authorships)
- Monitor program quality and effectiveness including outcomes and impact of knowledge mobilization projects and recommend and oversee the implementation of strategies for improvement
- Lead scholarship and research on the impact of KMb innovations and initiatives and support the dissemination of impact and identify opportunities for scale and spread
- Ensure development and use of appropriate mechanisms to measure and evaluate performance, processes, and outcomes
- Develop research collaborations and partnerships, both internal and external to CAMH
- Maintain external linkages to access information on best practices in education research, program evaluation, faculty development and simulation
- Coordinate testing, interviews, focus groups, surveys, and other data collection tools related to the research studies
- Collaborate and support strategic initiatives across CAMH portfolios, including the Health Equity Office, research programs and institutes, Education and clinical programs
- Support the development of the management team to ensure success of the knowledge mobilization portfolio

**Qualifications**
- PhD in Education or related discipline, from a recognized institution, with a focus on health professions education, simulation, instructional design, and/or faculty development
- 1 - 2 years of experience in education research, preferably in a healthcare setting
- Familiarity with design, implementation, and evaluation of digital learning is preferred
- Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, instructional design, outcomes-based continuing professional development training evaluation/assessment, adult learning principles and innovative approaches to technology-enhanced education and knowledge mobilization
