The Finance and Facilities team at the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) plays a key role in supporting WCAT’s mission to independently review appeals of Workers’ Compensation Board decisions. This relatively new but dedicated team, composed of a manager and two finance and facilities clerks, fosters a supportive and positive work environment and cares about providing optimal service to the staff at WCAT. They work closely with the Director of Operations, Finance, and Administration (Director) and all other teams under the Director, providing essential financial, facilities, and travel support services. Their work ensures that WCAT’s office operations run smoothly by maintaining equipment, stocking supplies, and overseeing building security.
**The Role**
As the Manager, Finance and Facilities, you will oversee a $21 million operational budget, providing financial support, strategic advice, and implementing policies that align with WCAT’s standards. You are responsible for facilities and asset management, ensuring a smooth and efficient environment for WCAT staff, whose work directly benefits the citizens of British Columbia. Additionally, the role supervises two finance and facilities clerks, fostering a cohesive team that keeps essential operations running seamlessly. This position offers you the opportunity to collaborate closely with executive members, gain valuable insights into public sector financial policies, and make a meaningful impact in the workers’ compensation system and public service.
**Qualifications**:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Professional accounting designation (i.e. CPA); OR
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, commerce, business, public administration, financial management or a related field and 2 years of related experience; OR
- Diploma in economics, commerce, business, public administration, financial management or a related field and 3 years of related experience; OR
- Certificate or coursework in financial management or a related field and 4 years of related experience.
Related Experience
- Experience in budget development, financial planning and analysis, budget monitoring, and preparation of reports for executive staff.
- Experience interpreting legislation and conducting analytical research to support budget development and evaluation.
- Experience analyzing financial data for variances and trends and recommending remedial action.
- Experience in facilities management, including space planning, building maintenance, and asset management.
- Experience supervising and leading a team, including performance management and staff development.
