**The opportunity**:
The Hazard Building Materials Tech will assist in the implementation of the University’s Asbestos Management Program, as well as general hazardous building material assessment and maintenance. As per the regulations, tasks will include preparing and maintaining the asbestos inventory, inspecting asbestos containing materials on campus, and making recommendations for their repair/removal, identifying hazardous building materials for remediation due to health concerns or pending construction, and providing instruction/specifications on hazardous building material removal. This role will assist in moving towards legislative compliance and improving the health and safety on campus.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline required.
- A minimum of 3 years directly related experience in asbestos management, including building surveys, sampling, and inventory management is required.
- Experience in hazardous building material management and monitoring hazardous building material remediation is required.
- Must have sound understanding of WSH Act, Regulations, and associated guidelines as they pertain to Hazardous Building Materials.
- Knowledge of personal protective equipment and occupational hygiene best practices is required.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be self-motivated. -Ability to adapt quickly and manage a busy workload is required.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well with a wide variety of stakeholders is required.
- Listening skills to understand and address hazardous situations is required.
- The ability to think, speak, present and write logically and clearly, respect time lines, and work collaboratively is essential.
- Superb accuracy for inventory maintenance, sample result communication, and data entry is required.
- Must be physically able to access all sites and use required safety equipment.
- A valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 drivers license is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry checks.
