Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is seeking a Casual Receptionist to work on an on-call as needed basis. Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Services, the Casual Receptionist is responsible for operating the switchboard, providing reception to the public and providing administrative support for multiple departments.
General duties include receiving and redirecting incoming telephone calls, mail, faxes, front counter inquiries; receiving and processing financial transitions; collecting payments for property taxes, fees, licenses, etc.; and completing daily cash balancing.
Due to recent internal growth trends, there is a likelihood that the successful applicant will be regularly scheduled and/or have opportunities for mobility into regular part-time or full-time positions, should they choose.

Essential Competencies
Applicants must have Grade 12 (or equivalent) supplemented by basic accounting studies at a business school or college or be able to demonstrate an acceptable combination of training, education and experience.
Preferred Competencies
This position may perform relief duties at the Administrative Assistant level and it is preferred that applicants have completed an Administrative Assistant Certificate program at a business school or college (or equivalent training); a minimum of 2 years’ experience providing support in an Administrative Assistant capacity; or be able to demonstrate an acceptable combination of knowledge, skills and progressively responsible experience.
Knowledge of municipal government operations, purchasing, property tax, bylaws and business licensing is desirable.
Working Conditions
This is a casual, unionized position within the BCGEU. The wage is set at Grid Level 4, $26.56 - $29.51 per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave.
