**NIVERVILLE MCC THRIFT SHOP MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Position Title**:Thrift Shop Manager

**Hours**:40 hours per week

**Compensation**:Salary based on experience

**Probation Period**:3 Months

**Start Date**:March 2024

**Job Synopsis**:In acknowledgement of Mennonite Central Committee’s (MCC) vision and mission statement, the Thrift Shop Manager under the direction of the local Thrift Shop Board, plans, directs and controls the day-to-day operation of the Niverville Thrift Shop, which includes the supervision of staff and volunteers.

**Qualifications**:

- A commitment to a personal Christian faith and discipleship, and nonviolent peacemaking. Active participation in a Christian church or Christian community is preferred.
- Post-secondary business management or commensurate experience preferred.
- Self-motivated and willing to take initiative, and able to work as a team with the staff and volunteers.
- Ability to manage in a multi-dimensional and dynamic work environment.
- Awareness and understanding of the online retail space, marketing strategies, and what contributes towards a great customer shopping experience.
- Ability to work comfortably using Microsoft Office is preferred.
- Comfortable troubleshooting basic internet/computer issues or experience with POS systems preferred.
- Customer service/retail experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, willing and able to work with a variety of people; friendly, outgoing and appreciative of volunteers, donors and customers.
- Strong organizational skills, able to make quick decisions and maintain an organized, tidy and safe work environment and manage workload by prioritizing tasks.
- Experience managing staff/volunteers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English, including pleasant and professional phone manner.
- Current First Aid Training Certification or willing and able to obtain within first 3 months of employment. Training must remain current during term of employment.
- Ability to communicate in Low-German an asset.
- Ability to reflect and express Anabaptist beliefs and the value of service.
- Ability to articulate MCC’s beliefs, mission and purpose to customers and donors.
- Ability to contribute to the development of a positive culture based on

Christian beliefs and values.
- Heart for social justice, peacemaking and global understanding.
- Current eligibility and status to legally work in Canada.
- Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory criminal record clearance.
- Satisfactory Child Abuse/Elder Abuse Check.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Operations:_
- Responsible for shop opening and closing
- Count, record and deposit cash sales
- Oversee retail operations of the shop, ensuring that the shop is neat, clean and attractive
- Ensure workplace safety measures are in place
- Troubleshoot issues with the till and scheduling as needed
- Staff/Volunteer Management:_
- Supervise, assist, motivate and support day managers, staff and volunteers, providing training, education and on-going development as needed
- Assist in resolving any conflicts arising with customers or volunteers in a manner that reflects respect, careful listening and peaceful resolution
- A key aspect of this role is the ability to relate well to others, including customers, donors and especially the volunteer team. This position requires living out your faith by serving others and advancing the mission of MCC as one relates to volunteers, customers, staff and donors.
- Create job descriptions and conduct annual performance reviews for day managers and staff
- Responsible for seasonal recruitment for Green Team positions
- Ability to accept/adapt to culture of existing and future volunteers
- Attend Board meetings, provide monthly reports to the Board, and

Communicate Board decisions to staff and volunteers, where applicable
- Work with the Board Treasurer as requested (develop budget, reporting financials etc.
- Responsible for biweekly preparation of payroll for submission to payroll company
- Administrative/Financial:_
- Develop operational policies as needed
- Monitor anti-theft procedures and policy and take appropriate action when theft occurs
- Deal with police and authorities in case of break-in
- Public relations - regular, ongoing positive interactions with volunteers, customers and donors
- Represent the shop to groups and organizations in the community and region
- Attend MCC-sponsored workshops, MCC annual meetings, and other activities as required
- Work closely with MCC Manitoba Thrift Coordinator
- Perform other duties as required

**Salary**: $16.13-$29.41 per hour
