Sessional Instructional Assistant Job Posting for AER1604H: Air Accident Investigation

**Course Number and Title**: AER1604H: Air Accident Investigation

**Course Description**: This course will provide students with an introduction to the methods, processes and technologies of air accident investigation: what happens after there is an incident or accident involving airplanes in Canada. The course will begin by explaining what happens at the site of an air accident, and will then provide a concrete demonstration by creating a mock air accident using real aircraft wreckage. Students will use their observations of the accident site and other information that they acquire or derive to understand and report on what has occurred. The course will take students through the full investigative process and culminate in the production of an accident report using the techniques and information they have been given during the course.

**Estimated Course Enrolment**: 40

**Estimated TA support**: 1 position for 60 hours

**Class Schedule**: Tuesdays, 5:00 - 8:00 PM

**Sessional Dates of Appointment**: January 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023

**Salary**: $46.92/hour

**Minimum Qualifications**: Successful completion of AER 1604 and a background in aircraft piloting or design are required. A demonstrated ability to assess assignments related to aircraft accident investigation is required.

**Preferred Qualifications**: Possession of pilot's license, and a graduate degree in aerospace engineering are preferred; familiarity with air traffic control and flight operations is desired.

**Description of Duties**: Marking of assignments for AER 1604; assistance with setup and operation of the simulated airplane crash.
