Public Works Labourer

Sherwood Park, Canada Strathcona County Full time

**_This posting is for multiple seasonal full-time hourly positions for up to 4 months (May to August). _**

Public Works Labourers will assist the Transportation Engineering and Operations department during the 2024 summer season.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform a variety of tasks as assigned on a day-to-day basis, such as routine clean up, fencing, painting, flag person duties, loading vehicles, road patching, brush removal, vehicle and shop clean-up, and sign erection and repair
- Promote a safe work environment through commitment to department and corporate OHS objectives
- Work closely with team throughout the season to complete site maintenance requirements
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Some related work experience is required; previous construction experience preferred
- Experience operating small equipment is an asset
- Previous related municipal experience is an asset
- Ability to communicate and interact in a positive manner with supervisors, co-workers, and residents
- Able to follow written and verbal directions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety guidelines and regulations
- General understanding of the care, servicing and operation of tools and equipment
- Willingness and ability to work in inclement weather and remote rural areas

**Conditions of Employment**
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs/23kg), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
- Working outside in inclement weather
