We’re a Canadian-owned and BC-based energy company taking steps toward a lower-carbon energy future by providing renewable energy, natural gas and electricity to more than 1.2 million customers.

We’re looking for new talent to join us as we transform BC’s energy future. Our diverse team of more than 2,600 employees is committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong and grow. Join us and let’s work together for a better BC. Position Overview
With your analytical sharpness and attention to detail, you ensure processes and procedures are in place to meet compliance with external regulations, standards and policies. Your wealth of compliance knowledge in the electric utility industry enables you to address compliance risks with expertly crafted strategies in a flash. These qualities make you the perfect fit for our Compliance Manager role.

Reporting to the Manager, Assets and Compliance, you’ll build ongoing compliance and manage the development, implementation and initiation of Mandatory Reliability Standards strategies, processes and procedures in alignment with provincial and federal compliance legislation and legal requirements. You’ll also support Operations to ensure safety, reliability and system integrity aren’t compromised. In year 1, you will:
Establish trusting working relationships with your compliance colleagues within the department and with external groups and organizations.
Become familiar with workload demands and deadlines and organize resources to meet deliverables accordingly.
Gain a complete understanding of the Critical Infrastructure Protection standards and how they’re applied to FortisBC. In year 2, you will:
Identify and implement continuous improvements in existing processes and procedures.
Execute projects and ensure adequate resourcing and tools for the team’s work. What it takes:
A post-secondary degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field plus eight to twelve years of electric utility experience in electric system operations, project management, information systems or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated experience with compliance planning, implementation and measures is required.
Excellent analytical skills and a driven technical curiosity to explore processes with a mindset for accelerating business objectives.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to influence and guide others without a direct supervisory relationship.
Exceptional strategic and organizational skills to prioritize safety and active risk management in planning systems, tools and our everyday work as it evolves.
Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
