**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you passionate about wildlife management and seeking a role that blends innovation with conservation? Join us as a Trapping Technician, where you will help lead efforts in the evaluation and certification of humane trapping devices. You'll conduct meticulous mechanical evaluations of trap prototypes, managing data and records to determine their effectiveness and efficiency. Collaborating with support staff, you will customize testing equipment, calibrate instruments, and maintain an updated list of traps tested. Additionally, your role extends to supporting wildlife biologists during field capture and necropsy of projects. This position demands innovative thinking to overcome challenges, requiring research, analysis, and creative solutions.

In our quest to modernize Alberta's Fur Management License Administration, you'll play a pivotal role in liaising with the trapping community and internal staff. Your contributions will inform policy intent, facilitate updates to the licensing manual, and assist in developing online tools for administration and furbearer harvest reporting. The role extends to fur harvest data management, where you'll compile diverse fur harvest information, produce data summaries, and contribute to reports. Furthermore, your involvement in publishing Alberta's annual guide to trapping regulations involves collaborating with the trapping community, fur industry, and publishers, developing educational content on best trapping practices, fur harvest statistics, and licensing information.

- A 2-year diploma in Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of directly related experience.

- Knowledge and understanding of trapping and sustainable-use legislation and policy such as the Wildlife Act, Wildlife Regulations, and the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards.
- Experience in a laboratory setting and use of mechanical equipment to evaluate devices.
- Skilled in managing data and records from mechanical evaluations, maintaining an updated list of traps tested, and facilitating collaboration with support staff.
- Experienced in liaising with the trapping community, Indigenous communities, and internal staff to inform policy intent and contribute to updates in licensing manuals.
