Reporting to the Senior Laboratory Technician, the Laboratory Technician performs duties relevant to the discipline area in the preparation, maintenance and safety of the student laboratory.

Specific Duties
- Prepare and setup materials and equipment in advance of scheduled labs and attach appropriate safety compliant labels on secondary containers
- Setup, cleanup, takedown and replenish lab supplies and equipment, including student workstations, as per schedules and requirements
- Aid in the collection and disposal of biohazardous, toxic and non-hazardous waste
- Aid in the ordering, receipt, preparation, maintenance, inventory, and storage of supplies, specimen and field collection(s), materials and equipment
- Monitor and maintain WHMIS/GHS compliance, including labelling of secondary containers
- Provide supervisory support to the laboratory instructor as needed and as it pertains to student safety and use of materials and equipment
- Aid in preparation of displays to promote the department
- Provide technical support in the development of lab procedures
- Liaise with all campuses and internal departments e.g. Facilities, Purchasing as well as outside agencies, as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned by Senior Laboratory Technician and/or Supervisor.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners and communities.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.

Skills & Qualifications
- Biology or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised in resolving problems and decision making
- Ability to organize time and workload
- Ability to work against multiple time constraints and deadlines
- Knowledgeable in the safe handling, management and disposal of chemicals
- Knowledgeable in WHMIS/GHS; WHMIS certificate considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work effectively and safely in a potentially hazardous work environment
- Demonstrated ability to be a creative problem solver
- Experience working in a Risk 2 level facility
- Background in variety of Biological fields.
- Experience working with Drosophila an asset
- Experience maintaining bacterial and fungal cultures an asset
- Excellent computer skills using MS Suite products, including Excel.
- Ability to travel and access to transportation
- Ability to repair and maintain microscopes

Physical ability to complete demands of the job
