**Gift Shop Assistant**

The Doukhobor Discovery Centre is a public museum that preserves the history and culture of the Doukhobor people. The Centre is a replicated Doukhobor communal village holding over
1,600 artifacts and numerous displays that illuminate the history of the Doukhobor peoples in
Russia and Canada.

The Doukhobor Discovery Centre (DDC) is seeking to hire a student for the position of Gift
Shop Assistant for Spring/Summer 2023. The Gift Shop Assistant is responsible for greeting and welcoming museum guests, operating the cash register/till, managing new and existing inventory and stock, operating the Square inventory system, creating engaging social media posts about gift shop items, and maintaining the DDC’s online newsletter with the Museum Director. The
Gift Shop Assistant position is available from May-August and is based off a 37.5-hour work week with a wage of $17.00 per hour. Applicants should have their resumes approved on Young
Canada Works and **must **be returning to school in the Fall of 2023. **This position is currently conditional and is based on approved funding from Young Canada Works. **

**Duties and Responsibilities**
As a Gift Shop Assistant at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre, you will:

- Welcome and greet visitors to the museum and take admission. Provide visitors with insightful information about the museum.
- Operate the cash register.
- Manage the Square inventory system, including inputting new sale items into the system.
- Work and correspond with consignees/artists who sell their hand-crafted items in the gift shop. Notify consignees when there is low stock.
- Work with Operations Director to pay consignees.
- Manage and prepare online sales.
- Update and monitor the DDC’s online store.
- Replenish all shelves with stock when empty.
- Create engaging social media posts that promote items from our gift shop and museum.
- Complete opening and closing routines in the gift shop.
- Keep gift shop organized and clean.
- Operate the DDC’s digital newsletter with the Museum Director.

**Additional Duties**
The Gift Shop Assistant may be asked to:

- Assist with exhibit and display set-up
- Tour and event planning and preparation
- Assist Museum Director or Operations Directors with special projects

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: From $17.00 per hour
