**What you will do**

The EHS Specialist will assist with various assignments and projects in support of plant safety and environmental goals. Incumbent will work with various programs and policies, research a variety of EHS related components, participate in and lead various projects to assist in achieving corporate objectives.
- **How you will do it**:

- Engaging the work force, both salary and hourly, to drive cultural change and accomplish safety performance objectives and targets.
- Ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial, state and local regulatory requirements and JCI corporate safety systems.
- Reviewing planned changes and new equipment installations. Approves or recommends changes in manufacturing and engineering matters of plant layout, location/relocation of machinery, equipment, facilities, safety designs, and processes.
- Support and complete risk assessment activities, hazard identification, coaching opportunities for conditions and behaviors.
- Maintaining and improving the corporate environmental management system. Collect environmental data for use in resolving root-causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities. Implement proactive corrective steps.
- Must complete and submit applicable environmental reports in a timely fashion (such as Tier II, TRI Form R, Generator’s Residual Waste, Waste-Water Self-Monitoring, and Air Emissions Inventory).
- Is instrumental in the administration, implementation and compliance with the ISO14001 & 45001 Environmental Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Oversees hazardous and non-hazardous waste program. This includes ensuring accurate handling, packaging, labeling, storage and transportation of waste to approved treatment and/or disposal facilities.
- Coordinates air emission, wastewater, storm water, and waste auditing and testing.
- Presents safety and environmental training programs to workers and supervisors. Some standardized materials will be made available and development of site-specific training materials will be required.
- Applies knowledge of health and safety engineering processes and practices.
- Possesses background of OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Identifies and evaluates unsafe practices to address root cause in the mitigation of hazard and risk.
- Leverages technology and forward thinking while leading safety improvement projects.
- Possesses knowledge and skills of Lean Manufacturing.
- Measures and audits the effectiveness of EHS hazard control programs.

**What we look for**

**Required**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science and a minimum of one (1) year of Environmental, Health and Safety experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in English & French-Canadian with reading, writing and communication skills in both languages
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, regulators and governmental agencies.
- Ability to describe EHS regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce.
- Ability to work independently to manage workload and prioritize tasks.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and administrative skills.

**Preferred**:

- Solid understanding and experience with SafeStart, STOP or other behavior-based safety program.
- Specialized safety training and certification from a recognized institute.
