**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Manager of Technical Support and Infrastructure (MTSI) is a member of the Engineering Faculty Management Group (FMG) and is key to the operations, functions and planning of the Faculty of Engineering facilities (e.g., CEI and CARE buildings and the various research and lab infrastructures in these buildings). The role also liaises with key institutional and private partners to ensure that health and safety protocols are maintained and followed, space renovations and equipment are coordinated and managed, undergrad and research lab facilities are operational.

The role manages technical support staff and team leaders to ensure that the day-to-day operations are optimized for timeliness and quality control, while maintaining the health and safety guidelines in the machine shop and other work areas.

**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:

- University Degree or Community College Diploma in a related field and a Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities in one of the trades (General Machinist, Tool & Die maker, Mould Maker) overseen by the position.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience with space planning, renovation, review of building drawings and project management.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the operation of all equipment in the Engineering Machine Shop, including the CNC mill.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity within a unionized environment.
- At least 3 years’ experience supervising machinists and/or other technical positions in a large and fast paced environment/organization.
- Experience with construction project revisions and change orders and cost analysis.
- PSHSA (Public Service Health and Safety Association) certification or willingness to obtain.
- At least 3 years’ experience in planning, procurement and purchasing of equipment.
- Proven ability to teach and mentor staff e.g., apprentices in a shop setting.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing administrative and financial aspects of a machine shop including usage levels of machinery/equipment, revenues, etc.
- Excellent quantitative, analytical reasoning, negotiation, interpretation, and policy analysis skills.
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and discretionary judgment.
