**About Us**:
The Health Workforce Planning & Accountability division (HWPA), oversees the provincial workforce policies and regulations, provider compensation, health provider major agreements, and the governance and administration of Alberta's Primary Care Network (PCN) program The division works in close collaboration with its key stakeholders, including physicians, professional colleges and associations, and other partners, both internal and external to the Government of Alberta, to design and administer evidence-informed, value-oriented policies and health benefits that serve the needs of all Albertans.

This Provider Compensation and Strategic Partnerships (PCSP) branch is responsible for the policy setting and operation of the Schedule of Medical Benefits, as well as the Optometry, Oral Surgery, Podiatric and Podiatric Surgery Benefit Schedules. In addition, it is responsible for the policy setting and operation of clinical and academic alternate relationship plans. A key accountability is the reporting of the associated budgets and supporting analysis, which is performed through collaboration with other divisions. Stakeholder management is an important aspect of the work of this branch, and this includes consultation processes and negotiation readiness.

The Strategic Projects Manager leads a team that is accountable for leading, developing and participating in complex, strategic projects aligned to divisional and Ministry priorities.

In addition, the Strategic Projects Manager also provides leadership and guidance in identifying trends in provider compensation in general and physician compensation, takes proactive actions to collect evidence and have full understanding of labour relations principles.

Some of the responsibilities and attributes of a Strategic Projects Manager, includes:

- Providing the required project management support to advance strategic projects.
- Lead the coordination, preparation and management of activities related to negotiations with physicians and other health professional associations.
- Creating sustainable, positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders through active direction and participation on committees, working groups and other partnerships.
- Leading, developing and managing innovation projects with multi-million-dollar impact.
- Facilitating successful collaboration at cross-divisional, pan-Canadian and other working groups for strategic priorities
- Excellent in coordination, consultation, communication (oral, written and computer literacy), interpersonal, motivational, negotiation/mediation, facilitation, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, analytical, critical analysis and information synthesis skills.
- Strong organization, communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills and ability to manage and provide leadership to managers, other Health Workforce Planning and Accountability division staff members and outside stakeholders.

The objective of the role of the Strategic Project Manager is to provide sound advice, evidence, and support to the Ministry's engagement with physicians and other health services providers.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a field related to the position such as (Public Administration, Business, Economics, Public Health, Management, or related Health Profession, and/or focus majors), plus three years related experience.

Equivalencies:

- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**Experience**:

- Three years demonstrated experience within the public sector and/or health care system.
- Experiences in Issues Management, Negotiations, and Project Management methodology and processes are **required**.
- Experience in stakeholder management is **required**.
- Experience in understanding the structure of the health system and the roles and relationships of the key stakeholders, the business and priorities of the ministry, division and each of the branches is an asset.
- Experience in leadership and managing a team is considered an asset.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities, functions, mandates, and priorities of the HWPA division and branches, as well as other divisions within Alberta Health
- Strong, broad knowledge of the health care system and health reform strategies in Alberta.
