**Reports To: Vice President, External Affairs and Communications**

**Contract Type: Indefinite, Full Time**

**Job Summary**

Reporting to the VP, External Affairs and Communications (EAC), CPABC’s Economist is responsible for developing, managing and producing our economic and public interest thought leadership. This position also acts as the project manager for the BC Check-Up reports and surveys, CPABC Budget Submission, and issues monitoring for the province’s economic development regions.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**CPABC Economic and Public Interest Thought Leadership**
- Develop and maintain the economic indicator framework and benchmarks and author CPABC’s _BC Check-Up_ LIVE, WORK, and INVEST reports, and work with external research firm and oversee _BC Check-Up_ surveys;
- Develop press releases and editorial content for _BC Check-Up_ and other initiatives to promote CPABC as a leader on important issues and the economy in general, and oversee media relations and regional media reps;
- Monitor economic trends on a provincial and regional basis and provide editorial commentary on events that will have a substantive impact on BC's economy at a provincial and/or regional basis;
- Research and produce _CPABC’s BC Budget Submission_ with recommendations in support of policies that will strengthen BC's economy and taxation system, and attend the annual _BC Budget Lock Up_ with the President & CEO;
- Work with President & CEO and VP, EAC on CPABC's government relations activities, including roundtables, presentations, and ad-hoc submissions;
- Ensure all content reflects CPABC's brand guidelines and promotes the CPA Vision to be the pre-eminent accounting and business credential and provides value for the membership;
**Interdepartmental Special Projects and Public Interest Research**
- Support CPABC's Senior Management Committee on special and ad-hoc projects that require a strong research, economics, and public interest lens (e.g., labour market research; Indigenous engagement strategy, Environmental Scan);
- Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

**Key Requirements**:

- Post-Secondary degree in Economics, Political Science or similar field of study is required;
- Masters Degree in Economics, Political Science or similar field of study would be preferred;
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in a similar role, focusing on public policy development, is required;
- Exceptional research and data analysis skills with the ability to consolidate and analyze information from multiple sources;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written;
- Advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills;
- Proven self-started and self-directed learner;
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint;
- Ability to work collaboratively as a key member of a team and independently with minimum supervision;
- Meticulous attention to detail, refined organizational and time management skills.
