**Laboratory Analyst**
**Location: Squamish, BC**

**9 Month Contract (with possible extension)**

**Job Overview & Responsibilities**:
As a Laboratory Technician your role is to provide laboratory services for Plant Operations as well as occasional support to the Technology Development, Plant Engineering and/or Commercial Projects teams. Your primary focus will be to analyze lab samples, execute lab scale test campaigns, develop/validate new methods, and communicate results.

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

- Perform physical and chemical testing of process samples utilizing ICP-OES, Spectroscopy, Particle Size Analyzer, Ion Chromatography, microscope, titrations, Crush Tester, and other instruments for materials testing.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate laboratory equipment.
- Support technical teams in executing experiments and non-routine lab testing using lab scale systems.
- Maintain sample receiving, data entry, and chemical inventory through LIMS.
- Provide timely processing and analysis of test samples in support of Plant Operations.
- Prepare manual or computerized calculations, worksheets, statistics and other data and material related to the process.
- Maintain the laboratory in a clean, tidy, and serviceable condition including managing sample waste disposal.
- Ensure that best practice is identified and implemented for laboratory procedures and data analysis.
- Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations including method validations and studies.
- Foster and maintain a positive culture; promote effective teamwork, a questioning mindset, and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
- Complete training requirements for CE processes and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and plant operations.
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture within the laboratory and Plant Operations team.
- Maintain the laboratory in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
- Ensure that all safety related conditions, accidents, and near misses are identified, reported, and investigated in line with company policy.
- Keep current/up to date on all training requirements.
- Ensure all laboratory chemicals and gas supplies are stored in a safe manner in line with applicable regulations.
- Ensure proper PPE is worn and maintained when necessary.

**Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have**:

- Post-Secondary school education with strong focus in chemistry/biology/environmental science or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of relevant, broad based experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
- Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples with field sampling, compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance procedures
- Knowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precaution
- Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities
- Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities
- Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
- Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills
- Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
- Strong computer skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment

- Works both independently and as part of a team
- Learns quickly

Schedule:

- 12 hour shifts working 2 weeks /2 weeks off, days and nights
- **Consideration will be given to applicants living in the Lower Mainland**

Salary and Benefits

Working Conditions:

- High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process. Requires patience, tenacity, and persistence.
- Shift work, with possible overtime.
- May involve long periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Lifting and carrying (up to 40lbs)
- Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
