Safety and Training Superintendent

**Primary Purpose of Position**:
Reporting to the Director of HR, Safety, Training and Development the Safety and Training Superintendent will support management in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Health, Safety and Training Program for ongoing operations and projects. This role is company wide and includes all projects that PACL is working on.

Promote safety, provide leadership to all employees and contractors of PACL Manage training requirements and records.

Pro-actively promote and maintain an active role in developing a culture of safety and personal accountability across the company.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- This includes but are not limited to:

- **Leadership**:

- Self-motivation to take the initiative to identify improvement opportunities and complete assigned tasks on time and to a high level of quality.
- Calm and respectful demeanor in all conversations with others.
- Ability to act as a catalyst to improve the personal safety and risk assessment maturity with all employees and contractors.
- Confident facilitation of workshops and meetings (procedure reviews, safety meetings, orientations etc.)

**Technical Skill**:

- Attention to detail, especially in incident investigations, form completion and response to regulatory authorities.
- Development of, and review of, site health and safety rules, policies and procedures.
- Develop, deliver and manage the training of employees
- Monitor the management of change and risk management processes.
- Maintain, and, where needed deliver, site orientation material for new employees, subcontractors and/or visitors.
- Maintain workplace inspection systems and checklists.
- Provide assistance and resources for accident and incident investigations and reporting.
- Maintain training programs and records for employees.
- Lead and oversee safety and training audits, inspections and assist in preparing Job Hazard Analysis and develop mitigation measures for hazards.
- Compile safety and health trend analysis information for Management and for the required reports.
- Review accident investigations and ensure they are properly completed and deadlines are met.
- Facilitate the completion of, and monitors, Industrial hygiene and dust sampling programs.
- Research laws and regulations applicable to the operation and audit compliance.
- Follow up on other employee/contractor safety concerns and advise necessary parties of the steps to be taken to address the concerns.
- Liaise with contractors to ensure compliance with Harte Gold policies and Procedures.
- Manage the OHSC process.
- Design and prepare weekly and Monthly reports.
- Maintain an open door policy for safety discussions.
- Prepare and manage budget.

**Other**:
The nature of this requires that, on occasion, there is a need to provide advice, administrative duties or consultation with Regulatory authorities during time away from site in the event of an incident, regulatory authority visit etc.
- Act as a liaison with the Ministry of Labour (MOL) for orders and investigations.
- Act as a resource to, and occasional participant in, JHSC meetings.
- Lead the agenda and material development for monthly staff safety meetings.
- Direct Mine Rescue Team emergency response.
- Supervise and give guidance to subordinates and Harte staff/employees.
- Other reasonable related duties as directed by the HR Director, Safety, Training and development

**Qualifications and Experience**:
**Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents**
- Secondary/Post-Secondary Diploma
- Eligible for CRSP designation
- Underground mine rescue trainer certification is considered an asset
- A varied of experience in a Health and Safety role (an underground mine setting is an asset)
- Supervisory experience and strong people management and development skills

**Working Experience - Nature and Length**
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in an underground mine setting
- Supervisory experience
- Strong people management and development skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment

**Other Skills and Abilities**
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated experience working with others, good overall communication skills, both oral and written, experience with computers including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
