**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**:
Based at the Detour Lake Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an** Environmental Technician **to join our Environment & Sustainability team, reporting to the Environment Supervisor.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The **Environmental Technician **will be responsible for day-to-day field sampling, data collection and other monitoring activities as part of the site environmental management system. This is primarily a field-based role with requirements for daily field activities.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Your responsibilities will include:

- Plan and execute surface, groundwater, soil and air monitoring at various locations on and off site
- Prepare laboratory bottle sets, chains of custody and sample shipping requirements
- Develop chains of custody in accordance with permit requirements
- Communicate with external laboratories for ordering of sampling supplies and analysis requests
- Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot various field meters and other instrumentation
- Use SAP to order field equipment and complete maintenance requests
- Operate various recreational vehicles to access field sample locations (snowmobile, argos, watercraft)
- Conduct data entry, QA/QA, exports and organization for regulatory reporting
- Participate in management of site wildlife and assist in the delivery of wildlife awareness programs
- Complete site inspections and follow-up, to ensure compliance with environmental policies
- Use compliance management software (Entropy) to edit and track environmental audit templates
- Implement the site spill response plan and advise operators on proper cleanup, draft spill reports
- Use incident management software to assign and track environmental corrective action items
- Present environmental orientation information to new employees

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Degree, diploma or certificate in a field related to Environmental Monitoring, Science or other environmental discipline (minimum 2 years)
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years related work experience
- Intermediate MS Suite skills, experience with SAP and EQuis considered an asset
- Valid Ontario’s Driver License
- Experience operating field vehicles (pick-up and trailer, ATV, argo, snowmobile)
- Experience collecting field samples (water, air, soil, noise)
- Experience working outside in varying weather conditions
- Firearms Possession and Acquisition License is an asset
- Ability to complete tasks which are physically demanding
- Excellent verbal, written and listening skills
- Exceptional ability to work within a diverse team
