**Position title**: 4- **Summer Camp Program Leaders**

**Type**: Part Time, summer term contract

**Schedule**: Summer hours 9:30-5pm Monday to Thursday (30hours/wk)

**Compensation**: $17-$23 per hour

**Benefits**: 4% in lieu of vacation

**Position start date**: June 26 to August 17th, 2023

**Reports to**: Child/Youth Program Supervisor

**About Banff Avenue Community House (BACH)**:
Banff Avenue Community House is a non-profit organization situated in the heart of a low-income social housing neighbourhood in South-East Ottawa. The Community House’s overarching goal is to offer a safe, inclusive space where individuals, children/youth and families can gather, connect, and access a variety of supportive programs and services that are beneficial to the community in which we serve.

**Job Summary**:
The Community Program Leaders are enthusiastic about working with children and eager to create positive experiences for community participants. They are team players, and ready to support the overall well-being of participants to reach their full potential and personal goals. The main role as a Community Program Leader is to create fun, welcoming, safe and inclusive activities for the children 6-12 years of age.  As a Leader you are responsible for appropriate program planning and meeting the requirements and program objectives set by the Community House. Using creativity and available materials to facilitate healthy living strategies, educational supports, community connections and recreational learning opportunities during critical hours.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To provide a safe, supportive and stimulating environment that fosters learning opportunities for children aged 6-12 years of age.
- Provide STEAM and engaging activities that enhance social, literacy, numeracy skills through program activities, and lessons geared specifically to individual needs.
- Connect opportunities that promote healthy and active living
- Provide exceptional services by demonstrating the ability to organize a stimulating program, a learning environment and interactive program planning.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a team setting towards objectives
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Community House and the community to support an holistic approach to supporting vulnerable children and their families.
- Conducting regular outreach, promotions and community events
- Ensure the program is inclusive to all, and set up for opportunities, learnings and social connecting
- Assist the Team with tracking data and other reporting requirements for effective impact reporting
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Leadership Staff Team. Knowledge and understanding of issues of poverty, discrimination, and other societal barriers in racialized communities
- Have good communication, interpersonal and organization skills
- Knowledgeable of child developmental stages for age-appropriate planning
- Bilingualism will be considered an asset; French, Arabic, Somali, Creole, or other languages commonly spoken among Black communities in Ottawa

**Qualifying Requirements**:

- Must be enrolled or completed a diploma/degree in Currently enrolled in post-secondary school in Child and Youth Studies, Social Justice, Education and/or Recreation, Social Work, or an equivalent program
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children
- Must be available to work the entire proposed contract period
- Certified in Standard First-Aid/CPR/AED which is mandatory
- Willing to obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
