Arborist Coordinator

We are currently recruiting for a Permanent, full-time Arborist Coordinator for our Parks and Open Spaces department.

About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Parks and Open Spaces, the Arborist Coordinator provides technical guidance and expertise for the overall maintenance of the Urban Forest within the City of Leduc, performing annual urban forestry duties such as pruning, removals, stump grinding, tree hazard mitigation involving cabling and bolting; tree evaluations and risk assessment including pest/disease control; and, seasonal planning and coordination of annual tree planting. In support of these initiatives, this position is actively involved in coordination of budget, equipment and staff within the Parks and Open Spaces department, including contractor and project management.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

- Planning and performing annual Urban Forestry maintenance duties
- Tendering and selecting trees and contractors for tree replacement program
- Liaise with community groups and public, providing technical advice on tree care practices
- Assist with community initiatives; i.e. LEAB, Arbor Day, Communities in Bloom
- Represent City of Leduc on committees and/or boards; i.e. CIB
- Coordination and monitoring of tree crew and contractors as required
- Timely response to Customer Service Orders or other customer service requests with respect to Urban Forestry
- Following all OHSW training and standards, safe operation of Parks related equipment including aerial lift truck, backhoe, skid steer, tool cat, mowers, brush chipper and other hand operated tools
- Assist with summer and winter Parks operations, working in all weather conditions

Qualifications:

- Diploma or Degree in Arboriculture; Urban Forestry may be considered
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a certified ISA Arborist
- Experience with budgets, ordering, working with contractors
- Leadership/supervisory experience is an asset
- Class 5 operator’s license with Q endorsement is required; Class 3 is an asset
- First aid certification is required
- Certifications for various equipment operations such as tractors, mowers, backhoe, forklift, and skid steer will be required
- Pesticide Applicators License is an asset
- WHMIS, TDG, and OH&S certifications are considered assets
- Municipal government experience is an asset
- Excellent independent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable cohesive team work and promote positive internal/external customer service
- Must be willing to provide a current Driver’s Abstract at own expense and at point of interview
- Must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check at own expense
