We are currently searching for a** First Cook **to join the Ken’s Diner team. This is a **full time** shift position based in Schonsee.
**Position Summary**:
The First Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner. The First Cook must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. First Cook must be prepared to work as a team member in a dynamic workplace, follow all safety procedures, and have a high threshold for heat in a kitchen environment. Supervising and giving direction to kitchen staff and acting as Head Chef in their absence to ensure all Lifestyle Options standards and Food Safety processes are followed.

**What You Bring to the Role**:
- Formal training in a culinary program or equivalent experience and knowledge
- Five (5) years of experience as a cook.
- Two (2) years of experience in a leadership position.
- Two (2) years of experience in food cost management, labor management, planning and execution of food services and special events.
- Experience cooking for seniors an asset.
- Knowledge of safety, sanitation, WHMIS, Food Safety Course.
- Food safety is required.
- Familiar with use of kitchen equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to follow and create recipes based on production needs recipes.
- Portion Management.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
**Your Responsibilities**:
- In the absence of the Head Chef, is responsible to oversee the operation of the kitchen.
- Supervise a team of staff in the kitchen including monitoring work for accuracy and completeness by deadlines and meal services.
- Prepares meals within menu guidelines.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of food.
- Ensures that the safety, sanitation, order and appearance of the kitchen is in compliance with all standards directed by regulatory agencies.
- Assists the Head chef in preparation and managing banquets, brunches, meetings and other special events.
- Order food supplies as needed in the absence of the Head Chef.
- Conducts inventory in the absence of the Head Chef.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Ensure refrigerators and storerooms are organized and maintained in the various kitchen areas on a daily basis and that all food products are stored in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Assist Chef with scheduling.
- Assist Chef with menu planning.
- Strive to uphold a safe working environment and be Health and Safety conscious and actively involved in maintaining and improving a safe work environment.
