- The McGill Library seeks a technically-minded, collaborative, user-centered and highly motivated individual for the position of Digital Collections & Repository Infrastructure Librarian. This member of the McGill Library’s Digital Initiatives department will lead planning and design for technical infrastructure for digitized content according to our organizational vision, serve as project manager for digital collections projects, and oversee the distribution of McGill digital collections to appropriate venues.

- DUTY STATEMENT
- Primary Purpose of Position
- Coordinates services and technologies to make McGill collections available in digital form, openly accessible, for research, teaching, leisure, and computational use.
- Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operationalizes project roadmap for ongoing transformation of McGill Library’s digital heritage infrastructure to repository-backed solutions and key strategic partnerships.-
- Manages select digital collections projects, coordinating activities including infrastructure development, digitization, metadata creation and processing, and online delivery.-
- Coordinates and leads the prioritization of digital collections projects for the Library.-
- Coordinates ingest of digital content into local and cooperative digital object repositories.-
- With other key Library staff, plans for the preservation of digital content managed by the Library.-
- Leads efforts to expand use of digital content through Collections as Data, Digital Humanities, Digital Scholarship, and Data Science techniques.-
- Proactively collaborates with other unit, library, university, and external units such as ApplicationDevelopment, ROAAr (Rare & Special Collections, Osler Library of the History of Medicine, Art, and Archives), Digitization Services, DISH (Digital Innovation & Scholarship Hub) and scholarly stakeholders to achieve project objectives. Engages vendors when appropriate.-
- Represents McGill in provincial, national, and international venues related to infrastructure and repository planning, shared infrastructure initiatives, and digital collections efforts.-
- Stays abreast of developments, initiatives, and offerings in area of expertise, and applies this knowledge to local work.- Reporting relationship
- The Digital Collections Librarian reports to the Associate Dean, Digital Initiatives.
- SELECTION CRITERIA
- Required:
- ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent.-
- Project management experience involving both technical and curatorial team members. Knowledge ofproject management strategies and evidence of meeting project goals and timelines.-
- Substantive demonstrated experience with digital collections software, digital repository solutions, orcontent management systems, including configuration, functional planning, and content ingest.-
- Knowledge of modern digital repository platforms and best practices.-
