**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**
This role reports to The Sport & Recreation Programs Coordinator.
**SUMMARY**
This position is for KPU Sport & Recreation's Intramural Leagues running each term (Indoor Soccer/Futsal, Badminton, Volleyball and Basketball). Referees are required to have experience playing, officiating and should know the rules of the sport well. This role requires an individual to commit to 8-10 weeks of the league per term. Referees are an essential part of creating a fun, inclusive and safe environment.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Act as a Referee for Intramural games
- Maintain a controlled environment following the rules each sport
- Officiate based on the rules of the game and ensure they are followed by all players
- Explain rules as needed to ensure all participants understand them
- Must indicate the start and the end of a game to ensure all games start on time and are completed within the time allotted
- Act as a Scorekeeper as required
- Monitor the gymnasium during Intramurals to ensure a safe and inclusive environment
- Assist in the organization, maintenance, and cleanup of the gymnasium
- Assist in the set up and take-down of equipment for Intramural programming
- Help with the nightly closing duties of the gymnasium and fitness centre
- Act in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required
- Support Sport & Recreation events and tournaments as required
- Educate users on Sport & Recreation policies and procedures
- Report critical incidents to the appropriate supervisor
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Previous officiating experience
- Valid First Aid & CPR
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent decision making and leader skills
- Strong conflict resolution and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse community
- Must be professional, personable, and outgoing
