To develop and maintain a safe and secure inquiry based early learning environment for the care of children in an inclusive setting to develop and implement programming based on the Ministry of Education How Does Learning Happen? Document (HDLH) and the Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place Program Statement that enhances the cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development of all children in care.
- Supervise children at all times ensuring a safe inquiry play based learning environment. Be aware of the number of children in care at all times.
- Actively guide, interact with and observe, children in their groups as well as on an individual basis.
- Take care of the children’s physical/emotional needs, for example: listening, nurturing, hugs, administering minor first aid and/or contacting parents/emergency services when required, etc.
- Track expected attendance ensuring that the ratios outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act are not exceeded, check voice mail for messages from parents/caregivers and ensure that the children expected in the program each day are present. Contact parents immediately if there is a discrepancy.
- Consider any food allergies or intolerances when planning the snack menu while following the most current version of the Canada’s Food Guide.
- Carry emergency information about each child at all times as well as the emergency bag and a working cell phone.
- Ensure that children and parents know the boundaries and expectations of our programs including our Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place Program Statement.
- Plan and implement inquiry play based programming for all children. In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, assist in the creation of Individual Support Plans (ISP) for children with medical/challenging/special needs following our Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place Program Statement.
